One of the first questions your budtender should ask you: Are you comfortable with intoxication? From total dude stoner joints (pun intended) to high end cannabis retail shops, going into a dispensary for the first time can kinda be well, …

Cannabis Etiquette – Lessons Learned

Author Liz GoldPosted on May 16, 2019May 16, 2019Leave a comment

As a long time cannabis smoker, I’ve learned a few things. First of all, not everybody likes cannabis. We used to call it, “pot” or “weed” or “green” – now, that marijuana is becoming a legit industry, we are encouraged …

It’s My Birthday!

Every year I get reflective on my birthday because it’s another year! This year I am 43 and it feels good. I’ve earned my age. As a hot new babe I know likes to say about her experiences, “It’s not …

I realized this on a date last night. I was telling the story that I tell about my break up and while it is true from my perspective, upon reflection this morning, I realize it’s not the whole truth. I’m …

On Being a Writer and Struggling to be Seen

Author Liz GoldPosted on March 15, 2019March 15, 2019Leave a comment

I was born with a birthmark, sliced into my left cheek and marked on my right. It’s visible immediately when you meet me. And these days, since I am sans makeup, I guess it could be quite shocking. It varies …

Instagram post 2177262654966876198_7933141 I’m in the process of rewriting the story of my life. We all have a narrative that we carry around with us. I definitely have a story that I’ve worn as my identity for years. I finally, recently, started questioning the things I thought were nonnegotiable. Turns out it was time to let some of those things go. They were waiting for me to just release.
I get to change. I get to shift directions. I get to say no to toxic shit that drains me and makes me feel intense dread. I get to make decisions based on what is good for my soul, for my spirit and I don’t have to explain those decisions to anybody. It’s an exciting time.
Instagram post 2167072503129144595_7933141 It’s the final day of @americans4arts #showyourart2019 >>> Art That Changed Me >>> and I’m posting this photo of me and my band “High Anxiety” as part of @rocknrollcampforgirls Ladies Rock Camp! 🤟🎤🎼🎸 It was a super fun program I treated myself to back in 2017. One person learned the bass, another the drums and I took vocals. We wrote the song in less than 48 hours and performed it live at @kellysolympian downtown. The weekend truly inspired me to face my fear of public speaking - I was singing! - and claim space on a stage. Unforgettable!!
Instagram post 2166334014070590966_7933141 Today’s theme for Day 30 of @americans4arts #ShowYourArt2019 is >>>theater >>> which reminds me of Broadway in #NYC, bringing me back to my outfit last weekend for a Broadway themed Halloween 🎃 party. I went as a Hell’s Kitchen eccentric. You know, the type that goes to as many shows as possible, has afterparties w the cast and crew and has their regular restaurant where they sit at the bar and drink the house red.
Instagram post 2165478134756388016_7933141 I picked this up at a #cannabis event here in #PDX a while ago and it’s been on my desk ever since. I remember @coregardens having a super cool pre-roll offering on their table, as well as this postcard that explains why #terpenes are important! It has a list of conditions of what each terpene can be used for (pain relief, sedation, inflammation, etc.) color coded and then mapped out with their various aromas. They also give a definition of terpenes: “Fragrant oils that give cannabis and other plants aromatic diversity...terpenes work with #cannabinoids to produce known therapeutic benefits.” So there you go! And in honor of Day 29 of @americans4arts #showyourart2019 >>> education >>>
Instagram post 2164934858387136193_7933141 Day 28 of @americans4arts #showyourart2019 is >>> spotted! 👀 >>> lots of great messages all around the #pdx area including this #DIY sign! Good reminder!
Instagram post 2164294656140273314_7933141 Here’s a >>> behind the scenes >>> look at my house before it was renovated in honor of Day 27 of @americans4arts #showyourart2019 .... the whole thing was gutted and repainted and now I’m the lucky tenant!!
Instagram post 2163357039697758387_7933141 On Day 26 of @americans4arts #showyourart2019 >>> monuments>>> I’m posting a photo I took while visiting @kara_walker_official’s exhibit, “A Subtlety, or the Marvelous Sugar Baby” at the former Domino Sugar factory in Brooklyn in 2014. The structure was 75 feet tall and shaped like a sphinx.
Instagram post 2162804879801094817_7933141 True story: I was at paddling practice here in Portland, Oregon and one of my teammates saw me wearing this shirt from the Center for Anti-Violence in Brooklyn and asked me “How’d you get that t-shirt?” I told her I trained in karate there for six years. Apparently, she volunteered there and told me that yet another teammate also volunteered there. I had no idea! Small world 🌎 so, in honor of Day 25 of @americans4arts #showyourart2019 >>> advocacy >>> I share the love for CAE ❤️ read more about their mission in the comments! (Also, apologies for the wrinkles! 😆)
Instagram post 2161975528184596139_7933141 It’s a five borough street map of New York City, brought to you in honor of Day 24 @americans4arts #showyourart2019 >>> on my wall >>> I remember I bought this from my neighbor in Sunset Park, Brooklyn for $5. We used to have stoop sales together and she let me have it for a bargain! This is only one piece of it; it’s huge and delicate and desperately needs to be framed. But! It’s on my wall and has been for years.... —————————

Instagram post 2161210482932076536_7933141 Today’s post is for Day 23 of @americans4arts #showyourart2019 with the theme of >>> purple >>> Admittedly it’s not a color I am drawn to a lot, but I’ve been burning this “Spirit” @magichourastrology candle 🕯 that I got at @seagrapesoap shop a while back. This candle (which is a royal/deep purple) has definitely evoked divine inspiration in me, which is what I’ve been asking for.... 🙏 🌸
Instagram post 2160716469561076830_7933141 This really has slightly next to nothing to do with >> dance >> which is Day 22 of @americans4arts #showyourart2019 but I had to post something. I am doing a little movement here in this photo from Halloween 🎃 2013 when I was Gilda Radner #SNL character Roseanne Roseannadanna ....just ya know, dancing in the bathroom.
Instagram post 2159812281100496658_7933141 I’d consider this sustainable art, which is the topic of Day 21 @americans4arts #showyourart2019 ... the illustration shows the moon phases over the 12 months of 2019. As this year comes to a close, how will it be used next?
Instagram post 2159283916287328100_7933141 I’m late today! But here’s my post for Day 20 of @americans4arts #showyourart2019 >>> festivals>>> psyched to have raced in Portland’s Rose 🌹 Festival Dragon Boat 🚣 competition in June. We even brought home some hardware. @pdxrosefestival #paddlesup #amazondragonspaddlingclub
Instagram post 2158446087235914783_7933141 It’s Day 19 of @americans4arts #showyourart2019 and I’m impressed I’ve done this every day! Today’s post is >>> public art >>> Saw this in #vancouverbc back in 2013. So there you go! #heart #flowerpetals #streetart #love
Instagram post 2157726762908677354_7933141 I’m not sure what we’re talking about here but this is way back when I lived in Crown Heights. This post is a double whammy - 1/ for #FBF and 2/ for Day 18 of @americans4arts #showyourart2019 >>> cultural heritage. My mom. Brooklyn (where she was born). A menorah. And a gesture for emphasis.
Instagram post 2156850687533958271_7933141 Day 17 of @americans4arts #showyourart2019 is about >>> arts after dark! #tbt to #Maine for this #sunset photo!
